CROCHET-NEEDLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 9, 1915.
Application filed February 17, 1914. Serial No. 819,239.
The invention relates to needles, and more particularly to the class of crochet needles.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a needlewher'ein the same is formed with a snap hook so that the yarn, thread or the like can be engaged therein to obviate the loss of the needle from the work,
or the latter from raveling out.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a needle which is simple in construction, and inexpensive in manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the 2 invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended. In the drawings :-Figure 1 is a side elevation of a needle constructed in accord ance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a fragmentaryedge view of the hook end of the needle.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing. r
Referring to the drawing by numerals, the needle is formed with a tapered shank 5 having a notch 6 contiguous to its pointed end to provide a'hook 7 with which the crochet work is executed, while the opposite end of the shank is flattened at 8 and split to provide resilient snap jaws 9 and 10 respectively. The jaw 9 is bent into a loop 11, as shown, so that the yarn, thread, or the like can be passed between the jaws 9 and 10 to engage in the loop 11 for its retention therein, and thereby hold the needle associated with the work or the thread to obviate the loss of the same. The jaws 9 and 10 are formed with reversely curved bills 12 to permit the convenient fastening of the yarn, thread, or the like into and out of the loop as will be clearly obvious.
From the foregoing it isthought that the construction and manner of use of the invention will be clearly understood, and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted.
What is claimed is 1. A crochet needle having means formed on one end thereof for holding the stitch when the needle is not in use.
2. A crochet needle having a loop-like snap hook at one end thereof for holding the stitch when the needle is not in use.
