Specification of Letters Patent.
Eaten ted June 29, 1915.
Application filed February 16, 1915. Serial No. 8,460.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, Jenna Sonnnmnmn citizen of Servia, and a resident of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Needle Threaders, of Which the following is a. specification.
This invention relates to an implement of novel construction, by means of which needles may be threaded in a quick and simple manner.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a'perspective vievvof a. needle threader embodying my invention, showing the same in use; Fig. 2 is a detail of the grip, before being bent; Fig. 3 a side View partly in section of the implement, and Fig. 4 a longitudinal section thereof.
The device comprises essentially, a resilient filament formed preferably of very thin wire,-and bent into the form of-a loop. This loop is provided with a doubled narrow front section or nose 1 adapted to be readily passed through the eye of a needle. Back of this front section, the two members of the loop diverge from each other as at 2 to form an expanded section or threading opening 3' therebotween. The rear end of each diverging or convex section 2, is provided with one or more corrugations 4, constituting a heel or abutment. The handle 5 'of the device is provided with aflat shank 6,
shank. That portion of the shank that extends beyond perforation 7 is then doubled against the body of the shank, to form a flange 8, between which and the unbent portion of the shank, the heel is securely confined. Finally, a small protuberance 9 is thown up from the body of the shank, by means of a punch, which protuberance engages either one of the heel corrugations, and thus securely locks the loop to the grip. In use the nose 1 is inserted into the eye of a needle 10, and then the entire loop is pushed back through'said eye, during which operation, the convex loop sections 2, will first contract and then expand into their normal position. The thread 11 is passed through the expanded section 3 of the loop,
' and the needle "is drawn forward to ennose, an expanded section back of the nose and a corrugated heel'back of the expanded section, which heel is engaged by the gripprotuberance.
