In the manufacture of my toupee, in order to get the appearanceof-the natural flesh color to show through the hair and at the parting, I lind it necessary to use a particularly brilliant, composite.,unusually-colored fabric at the foundationf'which I hereinafter refer to as flesh colored. It will be understood, however, that this Acolored foundation is more or less subdued by thehair woven thereon accordingly as the hair is light, dark or thickly woven, so as to create a natural appearance suitable to any complexion. I accomplish the objects of my invention as illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which* Figure l shows an inside view of my iinproved toupee. Fig. 2 is an outside view of my toupee with the hair removed. Fig. 3 is an enlarged, detailed section on the line 3.-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 'll shows my toupee as worn upon the head.

The foundation proper is double and consists of two layers of finely woven flesh colored silk gauze, supplemented at the parting with a section of almost invisible netting (hereinafter specifically described), into the top layer of which foundation the hair is artistically and scientifically woven so as to lie in the desired direction.

I insert at the parting Il a section of finely woven, almost invisible, transparent netting. position of this invisible netting is shown yin the drawing as E and it extends to bounds B, C and D Into this invisible netting the hair at the parting is woven instead of in the hair holding layer G of the foundation, and'through the netting the flesh colored silk foundation is visible at the parting, giving the effect of the natural scalp. The double flesh colored foundation enables the gauze E to be of the lightest possible weight, if so needed, all strain and wear being cared for by the foundation proper. rlhe use of the gauze E tends to modify and subdue the coloring of the foundation at the parting.

The toupee is held in place upon the head by suitable adhesive plasterat the points indicated XP usually four in number, but more ork less as may be found necessary, andl to strengthen such portions I add substantial flesh colored ribbony reinforcements F, intended to care for all strain on and about the points of adhesion.

By the means described I provide a foundation sufficiently strong to meet all requirements, yet so cool and light in weight as to be hardly noticeable when placed upon the The,

The hairs woven into this foundation are left in varied lengths that they may be combed and brushed into the live hairs of the head, the intermingling thus givina result which positively defies detection. y the use of my flesh colored foundation herein described the natural color of the scalp appears at any point where the hair becomes ruflied or dislodged, and a clear and natural parting is ever visible.

I maintain that my Aimproved toupee as herein described is one of the greatest spientific improvements in the art of toupee making, giving as it does a true representation of natural hair growing upon the head,

a result heretofore long` sought, and of especial and invaluable benefit to those possesse'd of bald heads.

Having thus described my invention,what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: I

l. In a device of the character described, a' iesh colored fabric lfoundation, hairs secured to said foundation leaving a narrow strip thereof uncovered to form a parting line, a stripof transparent nettingv of a different hue from the foundation secured on the upper surface of said foundation and covering said uncovered parting line, and hairs secured to said strip.

2. In a device of the character described, a fleshv colored fabric foundation comprising a plurality of layers, hairs securedr to the upper layer of said foundation leaving a narrow strip thereof uncovered to form a parting line, a strip of transparent netting of a ldifferent hue from the foundation secured to the upper surface of said foundation and covering said uncovered parting line, and hairs connected to said strip of transparent netting.

In a device of the character described, a closely woven flesh colored fabric foundation, vhairs secured to said foundation leaving a narrow strip thereof uncovered to forma parting. line, a strip of open mesh netting ofadiferent hue from the founda tion secured onthe uppersurface of said foundation and covering said uncovered parting line, and hairs secured to said strip.

4. In a device of the character described, a flesh colored fabric foundation, hairs secured to said foundation leaving a narrow strip thereof uncovered to form a parting line,.a strip of netting of a different hue from the foundation secured on the upper surface of said foundation and covering said un- O'opies of this patent may be obtained for covered parting line, and reinforcing strips on the underside of said foundation extending parallel with said parting line for securing the edges of said netting to said foundation.

5. In a device of the character described, a flesh colored fabric foundation, hairs secured to said foundation leavinga narrow y and hairssecured directly to :said upper layer only, whereby said layers will be free from each other to provide for air circulaf tion therebetween. f n

7.- `In a device of the character described, a foundation comprising an upper andy a lower layer of flesh-colored gauzey fabric secured together around their edgesand disposed in close relation throughout their area, hair secured directly to l'said upper layer only, and means secured to said lower layer for retaining said 4foundation in position upon the head.

8. Ina device of thecharacter described, a foundation comprising an upper and a lower layer of flesh-.colored gauze fabric, flesh-colored ribbon reinforcements secured around the edges of said layers, hair secured directly to said upper layer only, and means secured to said lower layer for retaining said foundation in position uponthe head.

9. In a device of the character described, a foundation comprising an upper and a lower layer vof `flesh-colored gauze fabric, hair secured tosaid upper layer only, fiesh' colored ribbonl reinforcements secured around the edges of said layersand also on each side and parallel with `the parting line of said hair, and means secured to :said lower layer' for retaining said foundation upon lthe head.
