Specification of Letters Patent.
Application meanca a 191s. S eria1No.232,008. Y
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE A. SCHAF FER, a citizen ofRussia, residingvat Brooklyn, New York, have invented a new and useful Clasp for Armbands and the like, of which the following is a speoification My invention relates to arinbands and the Fig. 4, is a similar View of; the clip when bent down in the final holding position. 1
Fig. 5, is a diagrammatic view of amodification.
1 represents an elastic band. 2 represents an ornamental bow which is applied over the point or junction of the ends of the band 1, which ends may be initially j oinedi'n any desired manner andby anysuitable means.
In order to hold the bow in place and at the same time to hide the joined ends of the elas tic band I provide a clip which comprises a core 3 of comparatively'thin sheet metal upon which has been braided, so as to completely envelop thesame, a fabric covering 4 preferably of silk or the like. By braiding the covering on the core the latter is completely enveloped by a seamless flat- -fabric tube. If desired, the fabric covering may be cemented to the core by any suitable adhesive which may be'applied 'tothefcore either while the braiding operation is going I on or at any time. In making the material for the clips I first form it as a long strip (see Fig. 1) and thereafter out off from the strip short piecesof thedesired lengthf By providing the tubular covering on themetal.
core, the former will be securely'and permanently applied and both surfaces of the clip will have a corresponding'finish. l? y providing cement, the ends of the fabric covering are safeguarded against fraying-when the long strip is cut into short lengthsto form separate clips. 'Instead'of covering the (topic: of thin patent maybe obtained foi fi've cents'eacli, bynqdresl Washington, D. 033'.

clipsinl cement'whenthe same'are severed 01f.
from the long strip, the only function, of the cement being to prevent the fraying of'the ends 1 of the :fabric covering. Even this is not essential in every instance, since the ends of. the clips may be united in such a manner .as'to prevent said fraying, for example,-I
have diagrammatically; shownin Fig. "5, a 5
method of interlocking the ends of the clip insuch a manner as to revent fraying, as
I will later describe. en the clip is'tobe in Fig.3. 1 Itis next slippediover the bow and "the joined ends. of, the arm band and in Figs.v 4 and 5, the extreme ends being ,applied' it isffirst bent into the form shown of the'finishe'df then the ends of the clip are bent in as shown preferably bentin as shown so that-the metal not press against the bodyof the wearer or an underlying garment. t .In. Fig. 5 I have shown thetwo extreme ends ofthe clip as being. hooked in opposite directions, the two hooks interengaging and then being clamped tightly. together thus binding the ends of the fabric covering in the final, clenching operation'so that they will not fray-. .Since both sides of each clip "correspond, owing to the seamless character ofthe fabric covering, it is immaterial which way the clip is bent in the act of applying a it. This is a feature of great. advantage n that much time issaved in the manufacture ofthe articles. Furthermore the finished article is .more durable since there are no f i seams to'open up or become loose. Again by braiding the covering on the cores. very f handsome "and ornamental effect issiproa permane'ntly closed band, a clip covering 1 and protecting said. means,.said clip comprising a core of metal and a seamless tubularfabrlc covering bralded thereon whereby either face of said clip may. be applied to and bent: around said means for permanently connecting the ends ofthe elastic strip; the endsof said clipfbeing'located at the inner side of said arm band I I rimononn nxsonarrnn infi tlie Commissioner of Extent
