Description

s. COHEN FOUNDATION FOR SHINGLE BOB 'IGS July 14, 1925.
Filed June 21, 1924 Patented July 14, 1925.
SAUL cor-Inn, or NEWFYORK, N. Y.
FOUNDATION roe. sHINGLE 3013 Wise.
Application 'filed June 21, 1924. Serial No. 721,559.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, SAUL COHEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Foundations for Shingle Bob Wigs, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification This invention relates to foundations for shingle bob wigs, and has for its object to provide a simple structure which may be snugly fitted to the head of "'awearei' andfl's so constructed as to permanently maintain its correct position.
Another object is to provide a foundation for shingle bob wigs having means for representing the scalp where the part in the hair is made. Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
The invention will be first hereinafter described in connection with the accompanying drawings which constitute part of this specification.
In the accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding characters throughout the several views Figure 1 is a front view of a foundation for shingle bob wigs made substantially in accordance with this invention and applied to a ladys head, the latter being indicated in broken lines.
Figure 2 is a side view of the same,
Figure 3 is a rear view thereof, and
Figure 4 is a fragmentary portion of the foundation, showing one of the spring stays positioned.
The foundation for the shingle bob wig is made of stiffened net 1 formed into cap shape to fit snugly over the head of the wearer. The edges of said net cap are bound with tubular ribbon 2 which follows the raised or cut-away marginal portion 3 at the rear of the cap which extends from one temple of the wearer to the other, and thefront waved margin 4 of said cap which extends from one end of the cut-away rear marginal portion 3 to the other. This tubular ribbon binding serves to hold the margin or edge of the cap into shape to snugly fit the head of the wearer, as will be readily understood.
To insure the proper snug fit of the front waved edge 4 of the cap around the forehead of the wearer, strips of elastic 5 are attached at the junctions of said front edge of the front waved edge 4 of the capextending from one temple of the wearer to the other around the back of her head. It will be noted that the length of the connectingribbon 6 may be varied to suit the size 'of the head of any particular wearer, and
that said strip may be made adjustable if desired. 7
To further hold the front waved marginal edge 4 of the cap snugly down along the forehead-of the wearer, a plurality of spring stays 7 may be secured by sewing or otherwise to the lower marginal portion of said front edge. As clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2, two such spring stays are arranged at the front of the cap and one at each side. Said stays are preferably encased in tubular ribbon 8 similar to that used for edging the cap. It will also be noted that the stays are preferably placed so that they extend sub-radially of the cap, and that their upper ends are attached to extra strips of binding 9 which also serve to reinforce the front marginal portion of the cap.
At a suitable point in the front edge 3 of the cap an upwardly extending indentation 10 is formed in the netting 1, the same being bound with tubular ribbon 11 similar to that used for edging the cap, and said indentation is covered with light colored gauze 12 to represent the scalp of the wearer at the place where the part is made in the hair, which is not shown, but which is designed to be knotted onto the foundation cap of netting constituting the present invention. This gauze covered indentation may be placed at any desired point in the front 13 of the foundation cap where the part in the wig is desired to be. As shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings, said gauze covered indentation is placed a little to the left of the front of the cap and is arranged at an incline to correspond to the popular mode of parting shingle bobs at the present time.
I claim 1. A foundation for shingle bob wigs comprising a cap shaped to snugly fit the head of a wearer, the front edge of said cap passing across the brow of the wearer ties and in true alignment withthe lower ends of said stays.
2. A foundation for shingle bob wigs comprising a cap shaped to snugly fit the head of the wearer, and having a substantially straight and continuous front marginal portion to extend across the forehead and around the temples of the wearer, spring stays arranged substantially radially of the cap at intervals along said front marginal portion for the purpose specified, said marginal portion of said cap having a suitable binding, and additional strips of said binding secured across portions of the cap, above said marginal portion, theinner ends of said spring stays being attached to said additional strips of binding.
3. A foundation for shingle bob wigs comprising a cap shaped to snugly fit the head of the wearer and having a substantially straight and continuous front mar- .ginal portion to extend across the forehead and around the temples of the wearer, spring stays arranged substantially radially of the cap at the center of the forehead and over the temples for the purpose specified, said marginal portion of the cap having a suitable binding, and additional strips of said binding secured across portions of the cap, the inner ends of said spring stays be ing attached to said additional strips of binding and the outer ends of said spring stays being attached 1 to said marginal strips of binding.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
SAUL COHEN.
