SUZANNE DURNEB OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
HAIR CUBLEB.
Application filed March 29, 1926. Serial No. 98,145.
My invention relates to improvements in hair curlers and more particularly to that class in which a fabric envelope and a ductile securing element are combined for the enof a coiled or wound tress or strand of hair.
An object of my invention is to provide a hair curler comprising a folio envelope of fabric in which a tress of hair may be whol- 10 I enclosed and to which is related a ductile element which is wound with the envelope and hair to produce a wavy or curly effect in the hair.
My improvements consist in the novel concombination of parts, as hereinafter fully, clearly and con cisely described, definitely pointed out in my claims and illustrated by the accompanying drawing (1 sheet) in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a hair curle: embodying my in vention;
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing a tress of hair as placed and held against lengthwise movement;
Y showing the 1 hair enclosing flaps or leaves, folded about the hair; Fig. 4 is. a perspective view showing the fully enclosed hair as wound and secured by the ductile element;
Fig. 5 shows in perspective a modified form of envelope; and
Figs. 6 and 7 show the folding and winding steps of the same.
Referring morespecific-ally to the drawing and as shown in Figs. 1 to 4, it is to be observed that the fabric body of the device is constructed out of a single piece of material, which, by preference. is aclose weave, heavy is cut to, or whose pattern will. include a back 10, of substantially rectangular contour, having at its top a tube or hem 11; having at its bottom a tube or hem 12, and, having at each side a flap or leaf 13.
The tube 11 is open-ended and is designed for the reception of a hair securing device, such as the elastic hair clamp 14, shown. The tube 12 is similarly. open-ended and is designed to receive a length 15 of ductile material, preferably a fabric-cased piece of flat, lead wire, dimensioned to closely fit I within the tube to minimize its lengthwise movements therein.
In the construction shown in Figs. 5 to i, the recited tube for the hair clamp is dispensed with. one of the flaps 13' doubled over the back 10' and a tube 12' formed by a suture extending through both the flap and back. in which a flat, ductile wire is encased shown in Figs. 1 to 4.
In the use a strand of hair is placed, as shown in Fig. 2. in a relatively fiat, thin layer upon (the back) 10 of the envelope and is held and secured in this position as by the hair clamp 14, preparatory to the final folding and winding. The flaps or leaves 13 are then folded to form with the back a complete, open-ended envelope for the hair. as shown in Fig. 3. and then, as shown in Fig.
as in the form '4. the envelopelthe back 10 and the flaps 13) with the enclosed strand of hair are wound or coiled. about the ductile element and the protruding ends of the ductile element turned to overlay the back to prevent unwinding.
At this time the user may, if1 desired, remove the hair clamp as it no longer is required and may contrlbute discomfort.
I claim Y 1. A hair curler comprising a back, integral leaves carried at the sides of the back, a tube formed integrally at the bottom of the back. a ductile element carried in said tube, and means carried at the top of the back for holding a strand of hair preparatory to the folding and winding of the device and hair.
2. A hair curler comprising a back, leaves carried at the sides of the back and a ductile element carried at one end of the back.
3. A hair curler comprising a back, leaves carried at the side of the back, a ductile element carried at one end of the back and means at the other end of the back for holding a strand of hair preparatory to the folding and winding of the curler and hair.
In testimony whereof, I have aflixed my signature.
SUZANNE DURNERIN.
