Abstract
A combined swimming cap wig that shields natural hair from water and serves as a hair protectant against chlorine in commercial and residential pools, and salt water in the oceans.
Description
- This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62/064,495, filed on Oct. 16, 2014, the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference.
- This invention relates to novel combined swimming cap wig.
- Many women have elaborate and expensive wigs, wiglets, weaves, hair extensions, natural hair treatments, and chemically treated hair (such as relaxers) to provide a variety of hairstyles and hair colors. These extensions and treatments, once applied, often require extensive daily maintenance. Furthermore, wigs and hair extensions are used to provide hairstyles for those who have experienced some or complete hair loss, such as patients experiencing hair loss as a side effect of chemotherapy. It is a difficult and time consuming process to effectively treat hair, or anchor a wig or other hair extension to a woman's head.
- Once the hair is treated, or hair extensions/weaves anchored, women may avoid water-related activities to maintain and preserve the appearances of their hair, such as swimming. Any such water-related activity could cause the hair to become wet, damaging the hair extension anchor or hair treatment. Furthermore, swimming poses the additional risk of damage to hair extensions/weaves or other hair treatments as a result of chlorine present in pool water or salt water present in oceans.
- By avoiding water-related activities, these women cannot fully enjoy activities that involve pools, fully enjoying vacation locations, engaging in water sports, snorkeling, certain beach activities, or even engage in the beneficial exercise of swimming. Furthermore, these women may avoid engaging in competitive water sports.
- Swimming caps can help these women avoid the damaging effects of water on their hair. Swimming caps generally cover and provide a water-tight seal to the upper portion of the swimmer's ears and contain the swimmer's hair during swimming. The material is generally of a stretch-type material to overlie and protect to an individual's hair within the cap structure.
- However, many women avoid using a swimming cap due to their unappealing appearance during use. These women spend a great deal of resources treating and maintaining their hairstyles, and do not want to hide all of their hair during all water-related activities.
- Accordingly, what is needed is a device that shields hair from the damaging effects of chlorine-treated water and salt water, but maintains an appealing appearance to the user, that can be worn as a protectant hairstyle.
- There are additional features of the invention that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto. In this respect, before explaining at least one embodiment of the invention in detail, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its application to the details of construction and to the arrangements of the components set forth in the following description or illustrated in the drawings. The invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced and carried out in various ways. Also, it is to be understood that the phraseology and terminology employed herein are for the purpose of the description and should not be regarded as limiting.
