2 Claims. (Cl. 132-46) This invention relates to ladies hair clasp devices, and more particularly to a hair clasp intended for use to hold a pony tail type of ladies coiffure.

A main object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved hair clasp device for a pony tail hair style, such device being simple in construction, being easy to engage with the hair, and being attractive in appearance. v

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved pony tail holder for a ladys coilure, said holder being inexpensive to manufacture, being durable in construction, being neat in appearance, and holding the ponj7 tail firmly in place while being easily removable and being removable without any tendency to pull out the hair.

Further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from, the following description and claims, and from the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a side view of a ladys coiffure of the pony tail type employing an improved hair clasp device according to the present invention.

Figure 2 is a perspective view of the hair clasp device used in Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a perspective view showing the manner in which the coiled hair clasp device of Figures 1 and 2 may be longitudinally extended to allow the pony tail to be engaged therein or to be disengaged therefrom.

Figure 4 is an enlarged longitudinal vertical cross sectional view taken on the line 4 4 of Figure 2.

Figure 5 is a transverse vertical cross sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 4.

Figure 6 is a perspective view, partly broken away, of a modied form of pony tail holder according to the present invention.

Figure 7 is a perspective view of a further modied form of pony tail holder according to the present invention.

Referring to the drawings, and more particularly to Figures 1 to 5, 11 generally designates an improved hair clasp device according to the present invention for use in conjunction with a pony tail type of coiffure, as illustrated in Figure 1. The hair clasp device 11 comprises an elongated resilient member in the form of a plurality of coils disposed adjacent to each other in sequence and being of suicient inside diameter to receive the pony tail 12 of the coiiure therein, the coils being suiciently extensible relativevto each other to allow the coiffure United States Patent() ICC - 2 presents merely the resilient outer surface thereof. The outer surface of the covering 14 is relatively smooth but is of a texture such that it exerts a frictional gripping force on the pony tail 12 engaged therein'so that it is held against slipping and'maintains itself in its original position as long as it is worn.

To mount the device 11, the device is longitudinally extended by stretching same, namely, by exerting tension on its opposite ends, as shown in Figure 3, whereby the adjacent turns are separated suiciently to ysequentially engage the pony tail between the adjacent turns, whereby the coiled holder eventually surrounds the pony tail and may then be released, thereafter assuming the position shown in Figure 1.

Figure 6 illustrates a modification of the present invention, wherein the hair clasp device, designated at 11', comprises an elongated plastic rod member of substantial resiliency which is molded in the form of a plurality of coils 12 disposed adjacent to each other in sequence and being of suicient diameter to receive the pony tail 12 therein, the coils being sulciently extensible relative to each other to allow said pony tail to be passed between adjacent coils in the manner described in connection with the modification illustrated in Figures 1 to 5, namely, by stretching the clasp device as shown in Figure 3 to separate the adjacent coils.

Figure 7 illustrates a further modification of the clasp device of the present invention, designated generally at 20, and comprising a helically coiled resilient wire comprising a plurality of adjacent turns of sucient diameter to receive the pony tail therein. The wire turns, shown at 21, may be spread apart in the same manner as illustrated in Figure 3, to provide suicient clearance to receive the pony tail therebetween. Thus, the holder 20 of Figure 7 may be stretched in the same manner as s own in Figure 3, allowing it to be engaged on the pony tail, and similarly may be stretched to separate its turns when it is desired to remove the clasp device from the hair.

While speciiic forms of an improved hair clasp device have been disclosed in the foregoing description, it will be understood that various modifications Within the spirit of the invention may occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore, it is intended that no limitations be placed on the invention except as defined by the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. A hair clasp device comprising a helically coiled spring formed from a single length of resilient material, said spring comprising a plurality of turns of substantially the same diameter normally disposed adjacent to each other in sequence and being of suflicient inside diameter -to receive a ladys ponytail coiffure therein,

said turns being suiciently extensible relative to each portion 12 to be passed between adjacent coils when the device is mounted on the users hair or to be disengaged l y covers substantially the entire length of the wire and thus' other responsive to longitudinal stretching of the spring to allow said ponytail'coiifure to be passed between adjacent coils, and a covering of friction material on the spring.

A hair clasp device comprising a helically coiled spring formed from a single length of resilient wire, said spring comprising a plurality of turns of substantially the same diameter normally disposed adjacent to each other in sequence and being of sucient inside diameter to receive a ladys ponytail coiffure therein, said turns `being sufficiently extensible relative to each other responsive to longitudinal stretching of the spriag to allow said ponytail coiffure to be passed between adjacent coils, and a coveringof rubber-like resilient deformable friction material on said spring and covering Vsubstantially its entire length.
