HAIR FRONT. No. 300,938I Patented June 2.4, 1884.

UNITED STATES` PATENT OFFICE.
SOPHUS C. BECK, OE PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
HAIR-FRONT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 300,938, dated June 24, 1884.
Application filed March 3, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SoPHUs C. BECK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, vhave invented| certain Improvements in 'Hair-Front Pieces, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to so make a hair-front that much less hair than usual will be required; and this object `I attain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure l is a perspective View of a'hairfront made in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2, a rear .View of the same, and Fig. 3 an enlarged view of part of the same.
The front consists, as usual, of a reticulated base or foundation, A, with strengtheningbands B, the wisps of hair being knotted to the foundation where the threads of the same cross each other, and the hair being dressed in any desirable manner. Usually the foundation consists of bobbinet lace of fine mesh, for, the fabric being white, it is necessary to fasten the wisps of hair closely together in order to conceal the said fabric. l
In carrying out my invention I use for the foundation A a netted fabric of coarse meshl and of the same color as the hair which is to be secured thereto; and by this means I am the manufacture of the front, for, owing to the coarse mesh of the net, only about one-third as much hair as usual is applied thereto, such portions of the net as may be exposed' in no way detracting from the appearance of the front, as they are of the same color as the hair composing said front and of the natural hair beneath. rlhe net which I use, moreover, has a rectangular mesh, so that the hairs can be much more readily knotted to the threads at the points where they cross than in a bobbinet-lace fabric, the meshes of which are ein cular, the open rectangular mesh of the net also imparting to the same a degree of flexibility Which enables it to conform accurately to the shape of the head.
I vClaim as my invention-fy A hair-front in which the wisps of hair are knotted to a foundation consisting of a netted fabric of large mesh and of the same color as the hair, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the` presence of two subscribing witnesses.
- SOPHUS C. BECK.
