The present invention relates to a toupee or a wig provided with a film having hair planted thereon and more particularly to a toupee or a wig provided at hairline with a film having hair planted thereon.

Heretofore, a net or a fabric has been used as a constructional part of a toupee or a wig for planting hair thereon. With such a net or a fabric, however, it is inevitable that the net or fabric is distinguishable from the human skin, no matter how fine its meshes are. Such difference is particularly noticeable at the hairline.

The present invention has eliminated the foregoing drawback possessed by conventional toupees or wigs by employing a film at the hairline of a toupee or a wig instead of net or fabric.

An object of the present invention, therefore, is to provide a toupee or a wig using a film which is adapted for use therein.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a toupee or a wig provided at the hairline thereof with a film having hair planted thereon.

The films which are used in the present invention are made of transparent, translucent or opaque synthetic resins, resilient rubbers or synthetic rubbers, having a thickness within about 0.04 inch (1 mm), preferably from 0.02 to 0.0004 inch (0.4 mm. to 0.01 mm.).

Owing to the recent progress in the art of chemistry, films having an excellent strength have become available which may be used in the present invention. Nevertheless, when a film stronger than those presently available is desired, it is possible to strengthen the film by inserting a net or fabric having a fine mesh interior of the film as a reinforcement.

In an aspect of the present invention, there is provided a toupee or a wig which is provided at the hairline thereof with a film having hair planted thereon.

In another aspect of the invention, there is provided a toupee or a wig which is provided at the hairline with a film having hair planted thereon, said film being reinforced with a net or fabric inserted interior thereof.

More specifically, according to the present invention, there is provided a toupee or a wig provided with a film having hair planted thereon, in that each individual hair is secured to the film in such a manner in which it passes through the film from the front side to the back side thereof at a first point thereon, makes a U-turn to form a loop without coming to the front side, comes out to the front side at said first point, then again enters the film at a second point spaced from said first point and, after threading through said loop either within or on the back side of the film, comes out to the front side at said second point.

According to the present invention, there is also pro- Patented Apr. 1, 1969 vided a toupee or a wig provided with a film having hair planted thereon, in that each individual hair is secured to the film in such a conventional manner in that a hair bent double penetrates through the film from the front side to the back side thereof at a first point with the loop end forward and comes out to the front side again with the two free ends of the hair, which are extending upwardly on the front side of the film, threading through the loop end thereof.

Still according to the present invention, there is provided a toupee or a wig provided with a film having hair planted thereon, in which each individual hair is secured to said film in such a conventional manner in that it penetrates through the film from the front side to the back side thereof at a first point thereon and comes out to the front side again from the back side at a second point on the film.

These objects and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:

FIGS. 1, 2 and 3 are cross sections of films used in the present invention having hair planted thereon in a variety of manners;

FIG. 4 is a perspective view of a toupee Or a wig embodying the present invention which is applied to the dividing line of hair;

FIG. 5 is a back view of a toupee or a wig of the invention which is applied to the hairline;

FIG. 6 is a cross section of the toupee or wig shown in FIG. 5 taken on the line A-A;

FIG. 7 is a perspective View of a bald head; and

FIG. 8 is a perspective view of the toupee or wig shown in FIGS. 5 and 6 as applied to the bald head shown in FIG. 7.

In illustrating the present invention with reference to FIG. 1, a hair 1 is secured to a film, 3 by passing it through the film 3 from the front side (upper side in the figure) to the back side thereof at a point a, causing it to make a U-turn to form a loop 2 on the back side, leading to the front side again from the back side at said point a, then letting it enter said film 3 at a point b spaced from said point a with a predetermined interval therebetween and, after threading through said loop 2 either within or on the back side of said film, leading it to the front side again at said point b.

In the method illustrated in FIG. 2, a hair 11 is secured to a film 13 by doubling the hair, passing the doubled hair through said film from the front side (upper side of the figure) to the back side at a point d with the loop end 12 forward, leading it to the front side again at a point r: and then having the two free ends of the hair, which are extending upwardly of the film, thread through the loop end 12.

According to the method illustrated in FIG. 3, a hair 21 is secured to a film 23 by passing it through the film from the front side to the back side at a point e and leading it to the front side again at a point 7.

In any of the cases described above, a net or a fabric may be inserted interior of the film, whereby not only is the strength of the film increased but also, by having the hair penetrate through spaced meshes of the net or fabric across the back side of the film, it is possible to shorten the hair planting distance between a and b, or c and (I, or e and f. Namely, by making use of a net or fabric as described above, the hair is prevented from coming ofi the film due to film rupture, which would be possible in the absence of the net or fabric.

Hair which is usable in the toupee or the wig of the present invention may be natural or synthetic hair.

Examples of the application of the wig or toupee according to the present invention, in which a film is suitably used, are shown in FIGS. 4, 5, 6 and 8. Referring to FIG. 4, reference numeral 41 indicates hair and 43 a film applied at the dividing line of the hair. In FIGS. 5 and 6, a film 33 is applied at the hairline 31 with a net 34 inserted interior of the film. In FIG. 8, the film 33 is applied at the hairline 31. The forward edge 45 of the film 33 is cut irregularly, such as zigzag or other configuration, for conformance to the skin line. The forward edge 45 constitutes a hairless handshaped edge.

The film used in the present invention may be coloured in a colour matching with that of the skin of the wearer of the wig or toupee. If necessary, the film may be provided thereon with a desired skin mark. Additionally, since, with the use of the film, the distance between hairs may be optionally adjusted, the hair planted film is not distinguishable, when in use, from the human skin where hair grows. The film having hair planted thereon according to the present invention, as used at the hairline, gives exactly the same appearance as the natural hairline and thus is not distinguishable at all.

What is claimed is:

1. A type of wig comprising an attachment film overlapped at least partially with the peripheral edge of a base film and having a flap constituting a hairless bandshaped edge, a portion of said attachment film rearwardly of said flap having hair penetrating from the back side to the front side of said film.

2. The wig of claim 1, wherein said flap is tapered forwardly and downwardly.

3. The wig of claim 1, wherein said attachment film shows the skin features of construction.

4. The wig of claim 1, wherein the forward edge of said flap is irregularly contoured.
