HORSE-TAIL HOLDER.
SPECIFICATIN forming part of Letters Patent No. 385,721, dated July 10, 1888.
(No model.)
To all whom it may concern/ Be it known that l, OLIVER HAZEN MUNTZ, a citizen of theUnited States, residing` at Greenville, i n the county ofMercer and State ofPenu- Sylvania, haveinvented certain new and useful lmliroveinents in Holders for Horses Tails; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in devices for holding a liorses tail; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of a flexible baud, and in combination therewith of a gripping device for retaining the band in position when applied tothe tail, all as will be hereinafter more fully described.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is rnade, fully illustrate my invention, in which-- Figure 1 iepiesents a side View of my device applied to the tail of a horse, and wFig. 2 is a perspective' View of the same.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the holder, consisting of flexible band a, lacing-hooks l), cords e, and retaining-hooks d. These lacingcords are attached by one end to the top of the baud or holder, and, after the tail is arranged or placed in position for tying, the band A is` applied and the strings are carried back and forth over the lacing-hooks, thus drawing or lacing up the band around the tail, after which the two free ends of said cords are tied together. In order to prevent the holder from slipping` downwardly on the animals tail, l provide a retaining-hook ou each corner of the band. These hooks are constructed with two prongs, e e, and an eyeL/Q which latter is designed to receive a rivet or other fastening by which said hook can loe secured to the holder.
It will be seen that afterthe band is applied to the tail of a horse and laced up the hooks are designed to prevent the band from slipping down by said prongs grasping the hair of the tail, and it is simple in operation and cheap to manufacture.
W`hat I claim is- The hereindescribed holder for the tail of the horse, consisting of a exible band, the two ends thereof having lacing studs and cords, and provided with retaining-hooks, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof l affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
OLIVER HAZEN MUNTZ. Witnesses:
